BPI Interview Feature: Liliom Press Indie Author and Blogger Mandi Konesni @MandiKauthor

BOOK PROMOTIONS INTERNATIONAL AUTHOR FEATURE

MANDI KONESNI

Welcome to the L.O.V.E. blog! Today we'll be chatting with author and blogger Mandi Konesni about her life in the literary field. Enjoy!

Q: Thank you Mandi for chatting with us today. Can you start by telling our readers a little about your writing routine? How do you start writing a new book?

A: Hello, and thanks for having me! I love to write, but sometimes it seems like there aren't enough hours in the day. I'm one of those 'day dreamers', my mind is constantly wandering, which helps immensely. A lot of times I'll see something while out, or catch a glimpse of a book cover, and random plot points start forming. Lately I've written the most during NanoWriMo. The fast, hectic pace manages to keep me focused and on task.

To start a book, I'll usually come up with some plot point I'm interested in, and build an outline around it. If I'm a little stuck, I run my half-planned idea by my best friend. She's amazing at pinpointing possible issues and tweaking things until it makes so much more sense to me.

Then, I lurk on http://www.fantasynamegenerators.com for a few hours... okay, days. Seriously, this site is such a good resource! You can find name generators for pretty much anything there, so you'll get lost for days creating towns, cities, worlds, characters, etc. Once I've got all my information, I pop on my headphones and dive in. For some reason, I cannot write to anything other than Fleetwood Mac. I have no idea why... I'm a rocker girl!

Q: That's awesome! We've heard from a lot of authors that they use music to keep their writing flow going. You also have some companionship when you're working in your "ornery bassle pup?"

A: As all pet owners know, the furry ones run our lives. Mine is the most spoiled mama's girl in existence. When I'm sitting down writing, she's attached to my hip. Literally. If I get up, she follows. My schedule is dictated by her schedule... she has a very hectic napping regime. Being part basset and part beagle, she's got the tenacious personality and stubbornness from both. If Molly says I'm done writing because it's bedtime, well, it's bedtime whether I'm tired or not. We had a cancer scare 3 years ago, a mammary tumor. I scraped up every penny I could to get it taken care of. She's my baby, it's the only thing I could do. So her dictating my life is welcome, because she's still here and healthy. I'm happy to work around her. :)

Q: We're so glad that Molly is still here and still healthy. You have a few things listed on your site that you do other than writing. Can you tell us a little bit about them?

A: I'm kind of a rebel, in a way. If someone tells me that I can't do something, it just makes me that much more determined to prove them wrong. When I was a teen, a lot of people I knew had skin allergies, but said there wasn't anything they could do about it. So I learned how to make soap and lotions, and tailored them to what people could use. When I wanted to start my own jewelry-making business, everyone told me I had no idea what I was doing, and was too young to start something like that. I incorporated it into the soap making, and started making custom items for friends and family.

When Facebook started its "real name or else" campaign, a lot of friends of mine were losing years of writing work each time they got nuked. I had no idea how to code or run a social network, but I worked my tail off and started http://www.roleplaylives.net for my roleplaying friends 4 years ago. It's now an invite-only home to over 5500 writers, and growing. Everyone I talked to told me I couldn't do it, which just pushed me forward. Now, I build my own sites, can set up servers and databases, and handle most issues easily.

Looking back, nearly everything I've done has been because someone else told me I couldn't. If you have a dream, don't let anyone else stomp it down. You are the only one in charge of your life and your goals, and others can either help you, support you, or step aside and get out of your way. If you end up tweaking your goals as you work on them, you're the one that gets to decide that, nobody else. I never expected to be running a social network, but life happens. We're just along for the crazy ride.

Q: We love it and we wish you continued success with your social network! I also saw in your bio that you're into gemstones. (me, too!!) Tell us a little about that please.

A: I was kind of a nerdy kid growing up. My parents instilled in us a healthy curiosity of the world around us, and encouraged us to explore when it came to things like science, reading, etc. Growing up, I collected rocks just because they were pretty, but after awhile, I started learning more about the properties of them. I learned people used gems and minerals for crystal healing, and that was it... off I went. Being Pagan, it really helped solidify my ideals, that all of nature works together in balance, and everything has its own energy signature.

I really tried to learn what each individual stone was said to do, and how to blend different stones for different meanings. It's still my nerdy hobby, honestly. I love making custom bracelets and things for people. I've been banned from buying any more gemstone beads until I use up some of what I have, since it's reaching the point where I may end up on an episode of Hoarders. I just can't resist a pretty bead!

When I was younger, I actually wrote a gemstone healing guide, with different correspondences for each stone. Even though I don't advertise it much since I wrote it so long ago, I'm still pretty proud of it. I use it all the time when creating new things.

Q: We'll take some beads off your hands if you ever decide to part with them. LOL :-) How can readers keep in touch with you or get to know more about your books and hobbies?

I'm currently working on revamping the blog section of my main site, but most everything is linked from there.

BPI Interview Feature: USA Today Best Selling Author Sylvia McDaniel @SylviaJMcDaniel #Romance

BOOK PROMOTIONS INTERNATIONAL AUTHOR FEATURE

SYLVIA MCDANIEL

Hello everyone! Recently we took some time out to chat with USA Today bestselling author Sylvia McDaniel about her life as an author. Read on to learn more about her interesting career and her bestselling books.

Q: Welcome to the L.O.V.E. blog Sylvia! We appreciate you taking the time to chat with our readers. Can you tell us a little bit about your experience with writing your first book?

A: I loved to read and after reading a very bad romance, I decided to try to write one. It was horrible, but I loved writing. So I joined RWA and started to learn about writing. It took me five years to sell that first book.

Q: We saw on your website that you have 2 doggies at home that you love very much. Are they still doing well?

A: OMG! Yes, we have Zeus and Ashley. Zeus is a gorgeous red long hair with a personality that demands lots of attention and snuggles. Ashley is our older dog who is sweet and shy.

Q: That's adorable! We're so glad they're doing well. Our readers should know that you write in the Romance genre. In that genre, what's your favorite type of story to write?

A: I love to write secret babies or reunion stories.

Q: Secret baby stories sound really interesting. The drama! What is it like to be a member of the Romance writers community and any organizations where you have membership?

A: Since I just moved eight hundred miles and live in remote Colorado, I no longer have a writers organization close at hand. But I’m going to join a Denver chapter and also some non-romance writers groups in the area. I find local writers groups in the Dallas area to be very warm, welcoming organizations.

Q: That's awesome! Well, we hope that you have great success with the new chapter and with your writing career in the future. How can readers keep in touch with you or get to know more about your books?

BPI Author Interview Feature: Award Winning Writer Brian O'Hare @brianohare26 #Mystery

BOOK PROMOTIONS INTERNATIONAL AUTHOR FEATURE

BRIAN O'HARE

Hello everyone! Recently we took some time out to chat with author Brian O'Hare about his life as a writer and retired college Director. Read on to learn more about his interesting career and his award winning books.

Q: Welcome to the L.O.V.E. blog Brian! Let's get started with getting our readers acquainted with you. We see that you hold several educational degrees, including a PhD.. What inspired you to seek a doctorate?

A: After I finished my Masters, I was talking to one of my lecturers. (I was a young teacher at the time studying part-time while I carried on with my job.) "I suppose you think you have learned it all now that you got a distinction in your Masters," she was saying. (This is not a boast; I say it to make a point.) My reply was, "The only thing I have learned over the past two years is that I know nothing about anything." "Oh, dear," she said. "The only thing that will satisfy that thirst is a PhD.."

It so happened that another lecturer from Northern Ireland and myself had been co-opted by the Department of Education to leave our jobs for a year to do research for them in colleges and training centres in Northern Ireland, the Midlands in England, North of France (Paris), south of France (Marseilles), Germany (Cologne) and in Holland (various cities ...small country). On my lecturer's advice, I was also able to use that research as a basis for my Ph.D. (During my year researching for the Dept. Ed., I discovered that colleges in particular were reluctant to take on board a new pedagogy that had been designed for the less able adolescents of post-school age.

Many books and circulars were sent to them, but their response in practical terms was abysmal. That lead me to write (after five years of study) a 100,000 word document entitled: Resistance to Change ...for which I was awarded a PhD..

Q: That's amazing! During your time at the college, did you ever work with students who were interest in writing fiction?

A: No, I didn't. That was never my area of expertise.

Q: Oh, okay. Well, you have done some extensive writing yourself, particularly in the Mystery and Police Procedural genres. Can readers find any elements of real cases in the novels that you've written?

A: No, apart from some sections in the the third volume of the Sheehan series (The Coven Murders) and the strange thing is that there is a massive, mass exorcism written in that book which is beyond belief. People will easily believe the rest of the fictional stuff in the book but they will probably scoff at that. Yet the entire scene, and its essential details, is based on one of many similar and factual experiences that a friend of mine (about whom I wrote a book: The Miracle Ship) has experienced, many times and almost word for word. He was the basis for a major character in the book.

Q: Wow! What an honor for your friend to be featured in one of your books. Can you tell us about any awards that you've won as an author?

A. I originally wrote academic books, biographies and a memoir. My first foray into fiction was an Irish Contemporary novel called Fallen Men which won an IDB Award in 2013 and Top Medallist honours for Contemporary Fiction in the New Apple 2015 Summer Awards.

The Miracle Ship won New Apple Top Medallist winner (Religious Non-fiction category), 2014 Awards

The Doom Murders, a detective story set in Belfast and the opening novel of the Inspector Sheehan Series, won an IDB Award, 2014, a New Apple Award 2014 (Mystery Category), and a bronze medal in the Readers Favourite 2015 Awards.

The second novel in the Sheehan Series, The 11:05 Murders, won the New Apple Outright Medal Honours Award for excellence in Crime Fiction and also a Pinnacle Excellence Award in 2016.

(The Coven Murders, third in the series, has only just been published, {end-Feb 2018] so no awards yet.)

Q: Congratulations on all of the awards! That's quite a list of accomplishments. Now that they know a little more about you, how can readers keep in touch with you or get to know more about your books?

A: The following sites contain info and my books (and a bit about me):

My Twitter page: https://twitter.com/brianohare26?lang=en
